Accounting and Auditing Matters This is the unethical recording and/or analysis of business and financial transactions in violation of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). (Examples include misstatement of revenues, misstatement of expenses, misstatement of assets, misapplications of GAAP, and wrongful transactions.)
Conflict of Interest A conflict of interest exists when an employee, officer, or member of the National Council's executive board or any committee thereof has a private or personal interest sufficient to appear to influence the objective exercise of his or her official duties. (Examples include inappropriate vendor relations, bribery, misuse of confidential information, and inappropriate customer relations.)
Discrimination or Harassment Discrimination and harassment occur when there is uninvited or unwelcome verbal or physical conduct directed at an employee because of his or her sex, religion, ethnicity, or beliefs. (Examples include bias in hiring, bias in assignments, wrongful termination, bias in promotions, bias in education decisions, unfair compensation, and inappropriate language.)
Embezzlement Embezzlement is to fraudulently appropriate to one's own use property that is entrusted to one's care. (Examples include intentional bookkeeping errors, misapplication of funds, and mishandling of cash.)
Falsification of Contracts, Reports or Records Falsification of records consists of altering, fabricating, falsifying, or forging all or any part of a document, contract, or record for the purpose of gaining an advantage, or misrepresenting the value of the document, contract, or record.
Improper, Unauthorized, or Infringing Use of Copyrights, Licenses, Patents, or Trademarks Any unauthorized or inappropriate use, misappropriation, or disclosure of confidential information (in any form), license, or intellectual property belonging to the company or to any customer, supplier, or business partner of the company including, without limitation, any intellectual property protected under any U.S. or other laws relating to copyrights, patents, or trade secrets. Also includes any unauthorized or inappropriate use of any company computer system.
Misconduct or Inappropriate Behavior This is intentional wrongdoing; specifically, deliberate violation of a law, policy or standard.
Registration Fraud This includes improper attempts, through whatever means, to add to or maintain on the official membership rolls youth, adults, or units that are not active, bona fide BSA program participants.
Sabotage or Vandalism This may include destruction of an employee's personal property or an employer's property (such as tools or materials) or the hindering of manufacturing by discontented workers. (Examples include equipment destruction, stealing, work slowdown, and planting or delivering a computer virus.)
Substance Abuse Substance abuse is the misuse of both legal and illegal drugs, including alcohol. (Examples include prescribed and over-the-counter medication used improperly, cocaine, narcotics, marijuana, and stimulants.)
Theft Theft is the act of stealing; specifically, the taking and removing of personal or company property with intent to deprive the rightful owner of it.
Unsafe working conditions Unsafe working conditions exist when there is a failure to meet requirements needed to perform all duties in a secure environment, or when there is a potential area of harm. (Examples include environmental damage, violations of OSHA or EPA standards, an improper or imprudent supervisor directive, and poor housekeeping.)
Violation of Policy This can be either willful or innocent actions that are in direct violation of company policy, procedures, code of conduct, and/or implied contractual responsibilities. (Examples include violating non-disclosure agreements, hiring standards, safety rules, Internet usage rules, and other corporate guidelines.)
Violence or Threat Violence or threat may be a physical or verbal expression of the intention to inflict evil, injury, or damage to a person, to a person's reputation, or to another's personal property. (Examples include direct, veiled, and conditional threats, and violent physical acts.)
