Making Anonymous Reports
What Does EthicsPoint Do?
Because Montclair State University is committed to the highest ethical standards, it has hired a third party, EthicsPoint, to provide you with simple, risk-free ways to make anonymous and confidential reports on something that you think may constitute misconduct.
How Do I File a Report?
You can file a report on this website or by dialing toll-free 888-572-8038. After you select the category that best matches the problem you want to report, EthicsPoint will walk you through a questionnaire. We encourage reporters to provide as much information as possible. We also ask that you use the “report key” assigned to you by EthicsPoint and your private password to return to the website to follow up within two weeks of filing a report. The University might have information on your report or might require further information from you to proceed with its investigation.
How Will My Report Be Handled?
EthicsPoint will not identify a hotline reporter without that person’s consent.  In compliance with New Jersey’s Conscientious Employee Protection Act (or “Whistleblower Act”), Montclair State will not retaliate against anyone for reporting or inquiring in good faith about potential policy breaches or for seeking guidance on how to handle suspected breaches.

We will handle all reports submitted via EthicsPoint promptly and discreetly, with the University’s ethics liaison officer or internal auditor investigating charges or referring them to other appropriate officials for investigation.  Montclair State might not share information about its findings and resolution of the problem with the hotline reporter, however.  The University expects that reports submitted via EthicsPoint will provide reliable information in a good-faith effort to address legitimate concerns.  False or misleading reports will only lessen trust and openness within the University community.
What On-Campus Resources Exist at Montclair State?
This service is an additional option that Montclair State wants to make available for those occasions when maintaining anonymity is important. EthicsPoint does not replace existing reporting methods on campus. What is more, this hotline cannot handle certain categories of concerns or general complaints. We therefore encourage you to try to resolve problems or disputes through established channels when possible. Please use the recommended procedures outlined by University policies for the following types of issues:

  • discrimination or harassment — www.montclair.edu/hr/EEOAAcomplaintprocedures.html
  • human resources issues not related to discrimination or harassment or to a bargaining unit concern — contact Ms. Cathy Bongo, Assistant Vice President for University Staffing Services, at 973-655-7210 or bongoc@mail.montclair.edu.
