Conflict of Interest
A situation in which a person, such as an employee, has a private or personal interest that impairs or appears to influence the objective exercise of his/her, or Grant Thornton’s, objectivity or impartiality. (Examples include: inappropriate personal relationships, inappropriate vendor relations, outside employment.)
Discrimination or Harassment
Negative treatment of an employee including uninvited physical, visual, or verbal conduct based on the employee’s membership in a particular category (race, ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender, transgender, disability, veteran, or any other category protected by law).
Illegal Acts
Any act that violates or is unauthorized under federal, state or local laws, including regulations issued by regulatory bodies.
Inappropriate Gifts, Payments or Entertainment
Giving, receiving, offering or soliciting anything of value to influence the actions or decisions of a third party, including any gifts or business entertainment that violate applicable laws or regulations.
Independence
Failure to maintain required independence from attest clients, including requirements related to investments or relationships that create independence issues.
Safety and Health/Environment Concerns
Concerns regarding workplace/environmental or personal safety in a GT office or other offsite location, including client site.
Substance Abuse
Misuse of either illegal or legal drugs, including alcohol.
Theft, Embezzlement and Misappropriation of Assets or Resources
Act of stealing or misappropriating the firm’s property or resources or the property of another person.
Time and Expense Reporting and Client Billings
Inappropriate time or expenses charged to a client. Inappropriate billings to a client in violation of Grant Thornton policy, contractual provisions, or applicable laws and regulations.
Violation of Policy or Misconduct
Willful or innocent actions that violate Grant Thornton policy, procedures or applicable professional standards, and/or other unbecoming behavior in violation of Grant Thornton values or Code of Conduct.
Violence or Threat
Any expression of the intent to inflict harm, injury, or damage to a person or to property, including physical assault or physical intimidation.
