This process is not intended to replace or supersede normal managerial and Human Resources communication channels.
After you complete your report you will be assigned a unique code called a "report key." Write down your report key and password and keep them in a safe place. After 5-6 business days, use your report key and password to check your report for feedback or questions.
The Town Council and School Committee of the Town of North Kingstown have approved and adopted a Whistleblower Ordinance No. 08-07 to provide a channel of communication for citizens, employees, vendors and service providers, students and their parents and any other stakeholder to make known any inefficient, fraudulent, improper or illegal activities related to any municipal or school district department or agency or contractor working on a town or school department project.
Everyone is encouraged to use the "chain of command" to report problems or resolve disputes. Whenever the problem may involve a person in a position of authority or if the complainant fears retaliation, the town and school department is providing an anonymous reporting service through EthicsPoint, Inc., an independent third party toll-free hotline and internet-based provider.
Complaints presented to a supervisor or a department head must also be logged into the EthicsPoint system to provide a record of how the matter was handled and, hopefully, resolved to the satisfaction of all concerned.
The whistleblower system is monitored by a subcommittee of the town Audit Committee. This screening committee is charged with ensuring that reports and complaints are addressed in a timely manner. A complaint involving the town manager or superintendent of schools may be made directly to the screening committee through the EthicsPoint hotline or website.
Complaints are considered to be serious matters. Complainants are urged to not use this whistleblower system to file frivolous or mischievous reports or in retaliation for slights, either real or perceived.
