Make a Report Follow-up on a Report

A Letter from Bishop William F. Murphy

Bishop William F. MurphyAs faithful stewards, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rockville Centre, New York, and parishes and schools within the Diocese (collectively, the “Diocese”), are committed to maintaining the highest standards of conduct and ethics. We must also be accountable for all we do in performing our work. The mission of the Church requires no less. To this end, all persons who work for, or on behalf of, the Diocese shall act with honesty, integrity and openness in all their dealings as our representatives, and shall be held to account for behavior that does meet these standards.

Currently, as we strive for full accountability and transparency, the Diocese has implemented and maintains several processes and programs that serve these goals. For example, the Diocese’s internal audit office actively assists me and my delegates, as administrators of the Church’s temporal goods, in developing and maintaining compliance programs to prevent abuses in the administration of these goods. External auditors perform annual audits of the Diocese’s entities and those reports are published after appropriate internal committee review. Governance structures of all entities are monitored and reviewed for ongoing improvement. Finally, financial results of parishes and schools are monitored within the corporate entities themselves with formal reports on these results made to the Diocese.

Like many other Archdioceses, Dioceses and not-for-profit organizations around the country, the Diocese wishes to pursue all reasonable means to ensure ethical behavior, transparency of operations and accountability. Persons who are interested in the operations of the Diocese should have a confidential avenue to report behaviors that fail to meet the highest standards. One such avenue is a confidential reporting hotline operated by an outside organization. The Diocese has chosen EthicsPoint to fulfill this function. The EthicsPoint hotline, which offers both web and phone reporting, allows employees, volunteers, parishioners, vendors and other interested parties to report concerns regarding a wide range of suspected unethical behavior by trustees, officers, directors, employees, volunteers, staff , agents or contractors of the Diocese. Your help in reporting suspected illegal or inappropriate behavior will assist the Diocese in its efforts to ensure conduct that is ethical in all we do.

Reports can be filed confidentially through this EthicsPoint hotline via the web by choosing the "Make a Report" link at the top of this web page, or via one of EthicsPoint's trained specialists at 1-888-371-4694.

Thank you for your help and support.
