TOLEDO, OHIO 43604-5360

Thank you for accessing our diocesan hotline for reporting suspicions of financial misconduct regarding Church funds or property.

Anyone responsible for the spiritual and material goods of the Church is only a steward of what belongs to others, and ultimately to the Lord. Saint Paul writes that what is required of stewards is that they be found trustworthy (1 Cor 4:2).

In this spirit, the Diocese of Toledo is committed to following the highest ethical and professional standards in all of our ministries, and to enforcing both civil and canonical requirements regarding temporal goods.

During the past several years, the Diocese has initiated several measures to provide for better internal controls, greater transparency and accountability, and responsible and ethical stewardship of all of our resources. Some of these initiatives include:

  • Reorganization of the Finance and Administration Secretariat resulting in improved processes and internal controls;
  • A revitalized and informed Diocesan Finance Council comprised of a diverse group of members with financial background and expertise;
  • An annual series of workshops for parish Finance Councils designed to help them understand their serious role and responsibilities in accordance with Canon Law and diocesan policies;
  • Revision and updating of the “Temporal Goods” policies of the Diocese;
  • Improved internal audit procedures with more emphasis on internal controls.

The financial misconduct hotline is yet another vehicle to ensure responsible stewardship of temporal goods. The hotline makes it easier for employees, parishioners, volunteers, vendors, and other parties to report confidentially any concerns related to financial matters. Neither the Diocese of Toledo, nor any affiliated entity, will retaliate or take any action against a person who makes a report. Every effort will be made to protect his or her identity and interests.

EthicsPoint, Inc. serves as the independent, third party administrator for the financial misconduct hotline. Reports may be filed via the web by clicking on the ‘Make a Report’ link on this web page or by calling one of EthicsPoint’s trained specialists toll-free at 1-866-384-4277.

One final note: This is a financial misconduct hotline. Other forms of misconduct should be reported directly to the Diocese. In the case of suspected or actual sexual abuse of a minor by diocesan personnel, immediate contact should be made with local civil authorities, and with the Toledo Diocesan Case Manager, Mr. Frank DiLallo. He can be reached at 419-243-2150 (private line) or 419-244-6711, ext 122 in the Toledo calling area, or 1-800-926-8277, ext 122 (Outside Toledo, Within Ohio).

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Reverend Charles F. Ritter
Diocesan Administrator, Diocese of Toledo
