The American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) is committed to providing a safe and productive meeting environment that fosters open dialogue and the exchange of professional and scientific ideas, promotes equal opportunities and treatment for all participants, and is free of harassment and discrimination. All participants are expected to treat others with respect and consideration and to follow venue rules. All meeting attendees are expected to uphold standards of scientific integrity and professional ethics, as described in the AAPM Code of Ethics. AAPM recognizes that there are areas of science and professional practice that are controversial. An AAPM meeting can serve as an effective forum to consider and debate science and profession-relevant viewpoints in an orderly, respectful, and fair manner.
AAPM Code of Conduct at Meetings and Social Events
Policy Statement: AAPM prohibits any form of harassment, sexual or otherwise, as well as other disruptive behavior at its meetings and events.
AAPM is an organization with strong values of responsibility and integrity. The AAPM Board of Directors has established policies to ensure these values are upheld, including the AAPM Code of Ethics and AAPM Code of Conduct at Meetings and Social Events, among others. Policies are reviewed regularly and are approved or reaffirmed by the Board of Directors or Executive Committee informed by external experts and current best practices.
To enable this process, AAPM has contracted with NAVEX to provide a complaint reporting solution called EthicsPoint. EthicsPoint is a web and phone reporting system that facilitates handling and response on a 24/7 basis throughout the year. Phone reports are handled by an expert trained to receive reports from individuals in delicate or stressful situations. Those reports will be documented and passed on immediately to the AAPM Response Team. Complaints about individuals serving on the Response Team will be delivered directly to the AAPM President.
