Our Commitment

Since 1982 Operation Smile, Inc. has existed to provide free reconstructive surgeries for those suffering from cleft lip, cleft palate or other facial differences. Founded in the U.S., Operation Smile’s footprint and its global network of patients, families, staff, donors and volunteers has extended to more than 80 countries where we work, raise funds and recruit volunteers.

Our vision of “A future where health and dignity are improved through safe surgery,” can only be achieved when we hold ourselves to the highest personal and professional standards and conduct our business affairs ethically and lawfully. Employees are required to sign that they have read, understand and will comply with numerous company policies. All volunteers who participate in medical missions are required to review and sign a Personal and Professional Conduct document prior to each mission.

Our decisions and actions are rooted in our Code of Conduct and we are committed to holding ourselves and each other accountable for honoring our Code of Conduct. When we act consistently with our Code of Conduct, we build trust, strengthen community relationships, and preserve our superior reputation as an international children’s medical charity.

Reporting a Violation

We want you to feel comfortable in approaching your supervisor or management in instances where you believe violations of policies or standards have occurred. Additionally, in order to provide a convenient and centralized location for reporting violations, we have launched a third party hotline hosted by EthicsPoint. You are encouraged to submit reports relating to violations of our Code of Conduct, inquiries seeking guidance related to policies and procedure, as well as providing positive suggestions for improvements.

EthicsPoint is globally accessible all day, every day, all year, and is there for your use as soon as you observe questionable behavior. EthicsPoint also provides a means of anonymous reporting. Operation Smile, Inc. will take anonymous reports seriously and investigate them to the full extent possible based on the information provided. If reporting anonymously, please provide as much detailed information as possible.

All reports will be sent to Operation Smile, Inc. by EthicsPoint on a totally confidential, or if you chose, an anonymous basis. You have our commitment that your comments will be heard.

Operation Smile, Inc. will promptly investigate any alleged violation of its policies. Violation of a policy, retaliation against any individual for reporting a violation, or failure to otherwise comply with our policies will not be tolerated and may result in disciplinary action, including termination of employment or of volunteer status.

To Make a Report

After you complete your report you will be assigned a unique code called a "report key." Write down your report key and password and keep them in a safe place. After 5-6 business days, use your report key and password to check your report for feedback or questions.
