About Humana’s Ethics Help Line

What is the Ethics Help Line?

Humana’s Ethics Help Line is a tool created by NAVEX (a third-party vendor) to provide a confidential and anonymous way to report suspected violations and get answers to questions about specific situations.

  • It’s available 24/7
  • Reports to the Help Line are not traced or otherwise identified
  • It’s staffed by trained, external non-Humana representatives

The Ethics Help Line creates open channels of communication that assist associates and leaders in working together to address fraud, waste and abuse, and other misconduct in the workplace.

Humana is required by law to have an anonymous reporting system. The Ethics Help Line meets this requirement and also supports our efforts to foster a culture of integrity and ethical decision-making.

Humana strictly prohibits intimidation and/or retaliation against any associate who, in good faith, reports a suspected or detected violation of ethical standards, Humana policies, applicable laws, rules or regulations or who participates in the investigation of a suspected or detected violation.

Reporting

Can I report using either the Internet or phone?

Yes. With the Ethics Help Line, you have the ability to file a confidential, anonymous report by Internet or phone.

What type of situations should I report?

You should report any violation of Ethics Every Day, Humana policies, or laws. Examples are: dishonest or unethical behavior; conflicts of interest; fraud, waste or abuse; questionable accounting and internal controls; criminal misconduct; or any suspicious activities.

You can also contact the Ethics Help Line to get answers to questions about specific situations.

If I see a violation, shouldn't I just report it to my manager, Security, or Human Resources?

When you observe behavior that you believe violates Ethics Every Day, we expect you to report it. You can bring any concerns forward to your direct leader, other member of your leadership team, or HR4U.

We understand that there may be circumstances when you are not comfortable reporting the issue in this manner. In these situations, the Ethics Help Line is available to take your concern. You can also report anonymously.

Why should I report a violation?

We all have the right to work in a culture of integrity and with that right comes the responsibility of acting in an ethical manner. Corporate misconduct can threaten the livelihood of an entire company. Working together, we can maintain a healthy and productive environment.

What happens after I submit a report?

Your report is forwarded to Humana’s Ethics Office for review and determination of action. Many reports are referred by the Ethics Office to internal departments for investigation, as appropriate.

I am not sure if what I have observed or heard is a violation of company policy, or involves unethical conduct, but it just does not look right to me. What should I do?

You should contact the Ethics Help Line. We'd rather you report a situation that turns out to be harmless than let possible unethical behavior go unreported.

What if my boss or other managers are involved in a violation? Won’t they get the report and start a cover-up?

The Ethics Help Line process is designed so that implicated parties are not notified or granted access to reports in which they have been named.

What if I remember something important about the incident after I file the report? Or what if the company has further questions for me concerning my report?

When you file a report through the Ethics Help Line Web site or by calling the Ethics Help Line, you receive a unique user name and are asked to choose a password. You can return to the Ethics Help Line Web site or call the Ethics Help Line and access the original report to add further information or answer questions posed by the Ethics Office. We strongly suggest that you return to the Ethics Help Line Web site or call the Ethics Help line in the time specified to answer company questions.
