Our Commitment
Virginia Tech is committed to integrity, a culture of compliance, and the promotion of the highest ethical standards for all employees. Our Statement of Business Conduct Standards contains general guidelines for ethical business and administrative conduct for faculty and staff. All employees of Virginia Tech, regardless of role, are expected to:
- Treat others with dignity and respect at all times;
- Conduct themselves in an ethical manner at all times;
- Support the mission and values of the university;
- Comply with departmental, university, and Commonwealth of Virginia expectations, policies, and procedures; and
- If management, adhere to management responsibilities.
As stated in university policy 1040, Virginia Tech does not tolerate theft, waste, or abuse of state, university, or university-related funds, property, or other resources through fraudulent means. All members of the Virginia Tech community have a responsibility for the stewardship of the university’s resources and ensuring that those resources are used for authorized purposes. Upon the discovery of circumstances that suggest a fraudulent transaction or irregularity has occurred, university employees have an obligation to report the incident. In addition, Virginia Tech encourages students, citizens of the Commonwealth, and others to report suspected wrongdoing in order to ensure proper and efficient use of Commonwealth resources. All reported allegations will be fully reviewed, and substantiated fraudulent activities will be reported to the proper authorities for prosecution.
To report suspected wrongdoing or concerns regarding compliance, you are encouraged to use this hotline, hosted by a third party hotline provider, EthicsPoint. The information you provide will be sent to the Virginia Tech Office of Audit, Risk, and Compliance on a confidential basis. In situations where you prefer to place an anonymous report, we encourage you to provide sufficient detail to allow for a thorough review of the issue.
