The mission of The Society of Rheology is to expand the knowledge and practice of rheology through education, partnership and collaboration with associated fields, industries, and organizations, as well as to disseminate to diverse communities what rheology is, and how it impacts humanity and the world. To achieve this mission, The Society of Rheology is committed to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion among all of our members, as well as more broadly throughout the field of rheological sciences and practice of rheology. Through our actions, we strive to value and respect all individuals, regardless of race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender and gender identity, physical appearance and ability, socioeconomic background, region, and immigrant, military, or veteran status. This value and respect is also not contingent on discipline, employment sector or educational status. The Society of Rheology also seeks to understand and remove barriers to diversity, equity and inclusion in our community, as well as obstacles to professional growth and advancement of our membership.
Disruptive or harassing behavior of any kind will not be tolerated. Harassment includes but is not limited to inappropriate or intimidating behavior and language, unwelcome jokes or comments, unwanted touching or attention, offensive images, and stalking.
If you have experienced behavior of any kind that is not in line with our values, we welcome you to reach out to the officers of the Society of Rheology or report your concerns through this website.
AIP adheres to the highest legal and ethical standards. We conduct our business in strict observance of both the letter and spirit of all applicable laws. The integrity of every team member and volunteer is of utmost importance.
Even our personal lives and choices can have an impact on our work. Therefore, we should not use our positions or affiliations with AIP or any of our Member Societies for private gain to advance any personal interests or to obtain favors or benefits for any of us, our families, or any other individuals, corporations or business entities.
We are required to observe high standards of business and personal ethics in the conduct of our duties and responsibilities. AIP expects employees and volunteers to comply with all applicable laws and regulatory requirements, accounting standards, accounting internal controls, audit practices and AIP policies. If you, in good faith, suspect another person affiliated with AIP has engaged in questionable conduct involving financial improprieties, misuse of AIP’s assets, conflicts of interest, or any other action that is illegal, fraudulent or in violation of AIP policies or detrimental to the interests of AIP, you have a responsibility to report it. This misconduct may include outright theft (of equipment, cash or time), fraudulent expense reports, misstatements of any accounts to a supervisor or to AIP’s auditors, or a conflict of interest that could result in financial harm or public discredit for AIP.
AIP has a policy prohibiting discrimination and harassment. AIP does not tolerate unlawful discrimination or harassment on the basis of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, pregnancy, genetic information, religion, ethnic or national origin, age, mental or physical disability, veteran status, marital status, other non-disqualifying disability or any other characteristic protected by law.
Not only does AIP prohibit conduct that is unlawful, but it also prohibits conduct that is otherwise offensive, including that which is insulting, intimidating, threatening, degrading, defamatory, disparaging, disrespectful or discourteous. This applies to conduct towards or by AIP employees, Board members and other volunteers, vendors, individuals associated with Member Societies, independent contractors and other outside business contacts, and the prohibitions are in place whether or not the conduct is in a business or social setting.
For employees, we want you to feel comfortable approaching your supervisor or Talent & Culture in instances where you believe violations of policies or standards have occurred. For non-employees, you are welcome to share your concerns with your AIP employee liaison, to contact AIP Talent & Culture or to a member of the Board of Directors. In situations where you prefer to place an anonymous report in confidence, you are encouraged to use this hotline, hosted by a third-party hotline provider, EthicsPoint. You are encouraged to submit reports relating to violations stated in our Code of Conduct Policy, as well as asking for guidance related to policies and procedure and providing positive suggestions and stories.
Filing a Complaint: Any individual covered by this policy may file a complaint describing the alleged misconduct through one of the following reporting channels:
Complaints should include as detailed information as possible. The report of an incident should include all relevant information (times, places, nature of the incident, and comments/responses). Emails, text, notes, and any other supporting documents should be submitted with the report. Confidentiality will be honored, to the extent permitted, to protect the rights of others.
Alternative to Filing a Complaint: If the belief is that a more informal approach such as mediation will likely prevent a recurrence, a resolution may be sought by emailing the AIP Talent & Culture Officer, through this address: AIPEthics@aip.org
See the EthicsPoint FAQs for more information.
