About the Citi Ethics Hotline

What is the Citi Ethics Hotline?

The Citi Ethics Hotline is a publicly available channel for raising concerns about Citi, its employees, and businesses, including concerns about questionable accounting or auditing matters in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Section 301 and other similar laws and regulation. The Citi Ethics Hotline is managed by the Citi Ethics Office. We have contracted with NAVEX, an independent third party that specializes in reporting of ethical concerns, to provide telephone and internet channels for you to report your concern to the Citi Ethics Office. Both the telephone and internet options are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, globally. You may choose to report your concern anonymously or identify yourself.

What is the Citi Ethics Office?

The Citi Ethics Office, part of Citi’s Legal function, is responsible for the Citi Ethics Hotline, Code of Conduct, and Code of Conduct training.

What type of concerns should I raise to the Citi Ethics Hotline?

Citi encourages you to raise anything that does not feel right to you. Any Citi employee, customer, or member of the general public may contact the Citi Ethics Hotline to report a concern, including if you reasonably suspect or become aware that any Citi employee, or anyone working on Citi’s behalf, may have engaged in misconduct.

If you are a Citi employee, or someone working or Citi’s behalf, you have additional obligations about what types of issues you must report and to whom they must be reported. Please consult the Code of Conduct and the Escalation Policy for additional detail.

While we encourage you to raise issues to Citi first, we appreciate that this is not always possible. Nothing in the Code of Conduct prohibits you from communicating with government, regulatory, or self-regulatory agencies about possible concerns, or otherwise providing information to, filing a complaint with, or participating in investigations or proceedings with those agencies. Nor does the Code of Conduct require you to notify Citi of any such communications.

Reports to the Citi Ethics Hotline about human resources-related matters are forwarded to Human Resources and Employee Relations for review and follow-up.

The Citi Ethics Hotline/EthicsPoint is not an Emergency Service. Please do not use this site to report events that present an immediate threat to life or property. Reports submitted through this service may not receive an immediate response. If you require emergency assistance, please contact your local authorities.

I am a Citi employee and I am aware of some individuals involved with unethical conduct, but it doesn't affect me. Why should I bother raising a concern?

All employees and others working on Citi’s behalf are required to report concerns about conduct or situations that may put our company or our customers at risk. The early identification and resolution of issues is critical to maintaining Citi’s strong relationships and being the best for our clients, business colleagues, employees and stakeholders. If you have reason to believe that any Citi employee, or anyone working on Citi’s behalf, may have engaged in misconduct, which includes violations or potential violations of law, regulation, rule, or breaches of policy, standard, procedure, or the Code of Conduct, including threats or acts of physical violence, you must promptly escalate your concerns to any of the contact listed in the Code of Conduct and the Escalation Policy.

If I raise a concern, should I be worried about retaliation?

Concerns submitted to the Citi Ethics Hotline are shared on a need-to-know-basis and are only available to a limited number of employees at Citi who are responsible for handling them. The Citi Ethics Office has established controls designed to prevent individuals identified in concerns, such as managers, from being made aware of the source of those concerns.

Citi prohibits any form of retaliatory action against anyone who raises concerns or questions regarding ethics, discrimination, or harassment matters; requests a reasonable accommodation for a disability, pregnancy, or religious belief; reports suspected violations of law, regulation, rule, or breach of policy, standard, procedure, or the Code of Conduct; or participates in a subsequent investigation of such concerns. Retaliation is a serious issue and includes any adverse action taken because an employee has engaged in such activity. As part of any investigation, we respect the rights that are afforded under applicable laws and regulations to all parties related to the matter.

Every manager at Citi is responsible for creating a work environment free of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. Managers are held accountable for the behavior of other managers and employees under their supervision. Employees who engage in retaliation against a colleague because he or she has raised a concern or question, asked for a reasonable accommodation, reported a violation, or been involved in an investigation, are subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment or other relationship with Citi.
