Our Commitment
Stony Brook University (SBU) is an organization with strong values of responsibility, accountability, ethics, and integrity. We are committed to an environment where open, honest communication is the expectation, not the exception. SBU encourages members of the University community who are aware of or suspect violations of policies or standards of conduct or acts of fraud, waste, abuse of campus resources or other inappropriate activities to report such acts. SBU does not tolerate fraudulent, unethical, or dishonest behavior and takes appropriate action upon receiving such reports.
In situations where you believe violations of policies or standards of conduct have occurred, SBU wants you to feel comfortable approaching your supervisor or management about such concerns. However, in situations where you prefer to place an anonymous report in confidence, you are encouraged to use this reporting mechanism, hosted by a third-party hotline provider, EthicsPoint. You have our guarantee that your comments will be heard.
Please note: Matters outside the scope of this reporting mechanism include:
- employment-related discrimination or sexual harassment.
- reports under Title IX.
- academic dishonesty (e.g., plagiarism, cheating, falsification of research results).
- spam, phishing emails or other information technology incidents that should be addressed by IT directly.
The above types of issues should be brought to the attention of the appropriate University offices in accordance with applicable University policies.
Retaliation against anyone who has made a report in good faith under this process is strictly prohibited.
The information you provide will be sent to us by EthicsPoint on a totally confidential and anonymous basis. Please see the EthicsPoint FAQs for more information.
