Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Ethics Helpline?

The Ethics Helpline is a phone and web-based communications tool for seeking advice, raising a concern or reporting suspected unethical, illegal or fraudulent activity.

How do I use the Ethics Helpline to report a concern?

The Ethics Helpline offers two ways to report concerns: by calling the toll-free number, 1-866-782-1441, or by accessing a web-based reporting system at travelers.ethicspoint.com. Both options are available 24-hours-a-day, seven days a week.

Who operates Travelers’ Ethics Helpline?

The Company has contracted with NAVEX, an external, third-party administrator of telephone and web-based services, to operate the Ethics Helpline.

Does management really want me to report?

Yes, we certainly do. In fact, we need you to report whenever you have a good faith basis for a concern. By reporting an incident, you allow the Company to investigate it and may actually minimize the potential negative impact on the Company as well as the consequences of improper behavior.

I’m a Travelers employee, what does the Company do to protect me from retaliation if I file a report?

Travelers will not tolerate harassment, retaliation or reprisals of any kind against any employee who has, in good faith, protested or raised a complaint with respect to a policy or practice of our Company or any of its employees.

Can I file a report from my personal or work computer and still remain
anonymous?

Yes, a reporter may remain anonymous regardless of the manner they report. Reporters should feel comfortable in providing their name but can report anonymously from work, home or anywhere they can get connected. The third-party administrator, NAVEX, is contractually committed not to pursue an anonymous reporter’s identity. Also, NAVEX does not generate or maintain any internal connection logs with IP addresses, so no information linking your computer to your report is available.

Can I submit an anonymous report by the telephone toll-free Ethics Helpline
too?

Yes. When you call, you will be asked to provide the same information that you would provide in a web-based report and an interviewer will type your responses into the secure site. These reports have the same security measures applied to them. It’s important to note however that if you submit your report anonymously, the Company will only be able to communicate with you through the Ethics Helpline. After you submit your report, you will need to return to the Ethics Helpline to view and respond to any Follow-up Questions or Comments that have been posted to your report.

Where do these reports go? Who can access them?

Reports are entered directly on the Ethics Helpline secure server. Reports are made available only to those designated by Travelers’ enterprise Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer who need to be involved in evaluating the situation that is reported. No report goes directly to implicated parties, their peers, or subordinates.

What if I remember something important about the incident after I filed the report? Or what if the company has further questions for me concerning my report?

When you file a report by phone or via the web site, you will receive a unique username and are asked to choose a password. You can then return to the Ethics Helpline system again either by phone or on-line to access the report. There you can answer questions or comments posed by the Company and also provide additional information. We strongly suggest that you return to the site in the time specified to answer any questions or comments.

What if I want to be identified with my report?

There is a section in the report for identifying yourself.

Can I file a report from outside the United States using the Ethics Helpline?

The Ethics Helpline website is available from anywhere in the world if you have access to the Internet. The toll-free telephone number, 1-866-782-1441, is available only in the U.S. and Canada. In all other countries, you can reach the Ethics Helpline by following the instructions for International Toll-Free Service (ITFS) for your country on the landing page.
