O-I
Ethics and Compliance Helpline

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Ethics and Compliance Helpline?

The Ethics and Compliance Helpline is a reporting system that enables O-I employees and others to ask a question or report a concern regarding an ethics and compliance issue. The Helpline is hosted by EthicsPoint, an independent third party.

What is EthicsPoint?

EthicsPoint is an independent company that provides secure, confidential telephone and web-based systems for use by employees and others who wish to ask a question or report an ethics and compliance-related concern. O-I is one of many companies that contracts with EthicsPoint for this service. In addition to providing service 24 hours a day, EthicsPoint offers interpreter and translation services that allow telephone and web reports to be made in dozens of languages.

How can I access the Helpline?

You may call the Helpline or access it through the Internet. The Helpline uses EthicsPoint’s confidential call center or its secure Internet site to receive your questions and reports.

What kind of information is needed if I use the Helpline?

You may use the Helpline to ask a question, file a report or follow-up on a prior report. When filing a report, you will be asked to provide as much detailed information as possible. You may even attach documents. Your report will be logged by EthicsPoint and routed to the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer for review and investigation.

How can I follow up on a report that I submit?

When submitting your question or report, you will be given a unique report key and asked to create a personal password. You will need this information to “Follow-up on a Report” to get the answer to your question or check the status of a report you filed. We ask that you follow-up within 5-6 business days. Please check back with the Helpline to:

  • view acknowledgement that your question or report was received;
  • find out if additional information is needed to process your question or report;
  • provide any new information related to your report; or
  • view updates or resolution.

Continued follow-up is important. If you have identified yourself when submitting your question or report, the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer (or a person designated by the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer) will contact you directly to answer your question or discuss your concern.

How will my concern or report be kept confidential?

EthicsPoint does not trace phone calls or use caller identification. In addition, since EthicsPoint does not generate or maintain internal connection logs containing Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, no information linking your computer to EthicsPoint would be available if you choose to make a report online. Reports from your computer would come through a secure Internet portal which does not trace or show user screen names.

The information you provide will be handled by O-I in a confidential manner to the extent possible consistent with the obligation to investigate and remediate problems.

May I report my concern anonymously?

Yes. In all countries except those which prohibit anonymous reporting, for example, France, you may report your concern anonymously by using either the web-based form or the Ethics and Compliance Helpline phone numbers. You will be provided with a report key and asked to create a password. You will need to retain these to return to the report you previously submitted. When you check back, you can monitor the progress on your concern and add additional information, if necessary. This will also allow O-I to ask follow-up questions, while protecting your anonymity. Keep in mind, however, that it is easier to conduct a more complete investigation if you identify yourself and those involved.

Will I be retaliated against for making a report or asking a question?

No. O-I policy prohibits retaliation against an employee who, in good faith, seeks help or reports actual or suspected violations of laws, regulations, O-I’s Global Code of Business Conduct and Ethics or O-I’s policies. Any retaliation against an employee who makes a good faith report will be subject to disciplinary action. If you feel you have been retaliated against, please contact the Ethics and Compliance Office or the Ethics and Compliance Helpline. Please note that employees who knowingly submit false reports will be subject to disciplinary action.

If I file a report will I be told what the outcome is?

No. When you raise an issue, the Company will let you know the status of the investigation. However, the content and results of the investigation are confidential and are not shared with the reporter.
